Dr. Mark Berber
A delusion is a false unshakeable belief which is out of keeping with the patients social and cultural background. Delusions can occur in many psychiatric conditions including severe cases of depression and mania, intoxication with substances and schizophrenia.
In our hospital, one of the most frequent causes of psychosis is substance abuse, more specifically abuse of marijuana. Teenagers often present to our emergency room in a delusional state, their condition triggered by marijuana use.
